They had my car for a considerable period of time, but I guess it's because of my vehicle being a 1998 VT Holden, and parts being quite hard to find. I reported a drive train whine, but they believed it was the wheel bearing. They could not find a replacement that matched my VIN number, so they had to fit one that did not match my VIN number due to the lack of supply. The result as they reported by phone, is that I will have an ABS light on permanently on my dash. Apprarently the car was ready for pick up and payment. Their new staff kept calling me "Bro", "Boss", "Mate" etc, but I guess this is Australia. The previous owner was an older gentleman, and spoke professionally to you. Anyway, after arriving in a DiDi Rideshare, and paying, I found on the way home that the drive line whine was still there. The car also stopped as they had let the battery run down, and it had obviously not been charged overnight before expecting me to arrive and pick it up next day. So after I managed to charge the battery enough by parking on the side of the road revving the motor slightly after getting it started, I went to a petrol station, topped up the tires, and took it back. One of their mechanics took a ride with me as he did not know what I was talking about. When the obvious whine was pointed out to him, he agreed the whine was still there, but their replacement of the wheel bearing probably contributed to improving the situation. I also pointed out the car kept stopping because of the discharged battery, and he answered that that was a bit confusing as they “had it on the battery charger.” I rolled my eyes, left the car with them again, and travelled back home in an Uber, as DiDi not not have any cars available in the region. It was lucky I had another car to use. Eventually they phoned me again to say they now diagnosed that the whine was coming from the differential, and I gave them the go ahead to fix it at their estimated cost. More extended time elapsed before I got a call again that the car was ready for pick up and payment. I made sure that they had test driven the car, and confirmed that the driveline whine was gone. They confirmed this, so I said I would come and pick it up the next day, so could they please put the battery on a charger overnight so that there were no more stopping issues when I drove it home. Thankfully the driveline whine was gone after they said they had trouble finding a second hand differential that matched my VIN number. The first one they got did not fit, as the bolt holes did not match up. They finally found a matching one in South Australia, and it was delivered to Yarrabilba in Queensland from there. Apparently because my car had 400,000kms and a few other mechanical issues ( that I would repair in time) it did not qualify for Ultra-tune’s Roadside Assistance, but I am with RACQ, and would not need it. So now I have a car with an ABS light permanently on, and the previous garage I used to use did not find any wheel bearing trouble when I put it in with them for repair. I think from now on I will put the car in with a proper Holden repair service centre.
