I used to get my car serviced at Mazda service centers. For a change, I decided to research and find a local mechanics to get my pink slip and a basic service done.
I was asked if I wanted to get the air filter and the engine filter changed. I decided to just get the engine filter changed. When I went to pick up the car, I wanted to see the new filter inside the car, Rachel was rude and made me feel like it's a hassle to show me saying 'do you really need to see it. we will have to open the car, unscrew the box, take out the filter, put it back in, screw it back'. The owner ended up showing me and spoke to me in a nice manner, apologized for her bad service which I appreciated and I was willing to give this place another go in the future.
A week later (today), I just remembered that they never said anything about one of my back lights because it hadn't been working for at least two months before the service and I went to check it and it's not working. I called back and the owner said it's my business/licence on the line, we wouldn't have passed the pink slip check if it wasn't working. I said we would just agree that it wasn't working before the service, somehow decided to work during the check and stopped working again after the service. I said I was gonna leave a bad rating. Then in a frustrated tone, he offered to replace the globe free of charge out of goodwill. I was contemplating of taking up the offer, but on second thought, I'm not going to put up with that kind of service just to get my lights changed for free. It's principle. I knew the light wasn't working and there was maybe too much on the line for then to admit they made a mistake.
Moral of the story - make sure you write down a list of things you need to get checked and fixed and ask them to show you on the spot when you pick up your car (despite them not keen to show you) to prevent future disagreements.
