Is Your Mercedes-Benz Handbrake Cable Holding up, or Does It Need Replacing?

Whether you call it a parking brake, emergency brake or handbrake, it doesn’t really matter - they all have just one function and that is to mechanically stop your Mercedes-Benz from moving forward or backwards.

If your Mercedes-Benz has an electric handbrake it won't have a handbrake cable but for the remaining majority when the handbrake is activated, a cable is used to squeeze the brake shoes or pads onto the brake drums or discs.

Manual hand brake cables can rust, get damaged, stretch or snap over time. They also have a limited amount of adjustments in them and will eventually need to be replaced.

There’s an increased chance of an accident if your handbrake isn’t working properly - your Mercedes-Benz could easily roll into another car, damage property and hurt someone if you’re not careful.
