Great Wall Motors Transmission position sensor replacement
Great Wall Motors Transmission Position Sensor Replacement
The transmission position sensor, also known as the transmission range sensor, is an electronic sensor that provides the position of the shifter to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
The PCM uses that information to control the transmission depending on the position of the shifter.
Over time, the transmission position sensor may begin to fail or wear out. If the transmission position sensor fails or suffers a malfunction, there are a number of symptoms that could start to appear.
There could be a few signs that your transmission position sensor is starting to fail including:
1. Car doesn't start
If your PCM doesn’t get a proper signal from the transmission position sensor it may be unable to tell if you are in park or neutral and therefore won't start
2. Vehicle won't move/go into gear
If the transmission position sensor can’t tell when you have selected a gear your PCM won't know when to put it into gear.
3. Transmission goes into different gear than selected
There could be a mismatch between the gear selector position and the signal being sent to the PCM, this could cause the transmission to go into a different gear than what is selected by the driver.
There is not a lot of serviceable parts in the transmission position sensor so generally the sensor will need replacement. Usually, it is not a very labour intensive job to replace but the parts prices can vary depending on the model of your Great Wall Motors.
If your transmission position sensor fails, then you could be stuck without drive and be up for a costly tow, so it’s best to get it looked at as soon as possible.
